My understanding is that during impact statements, the victims are to speak directly to the judge; does the state of IN do things differently or perhaps I misread the sentence? moo

I have seen many family members over the years give their impact statements. Sometimes they direct them to the judge. Sometimes directly to the defendant. I guess it depends on how one interprets "the court" in the how to instructions provided by each county. In legal pleadings the "court" is the judge. But lay persons tend not to know that and the court could also refer to those assembled in the courtroom. linked is an example of those instructions

Victim Impact Statement
A Victim Impact Statement is your right to tell the court how the crime committed against you or your loved one has affected you. It can be written or you may choose to speak directly to the court at the Sentencing Hearing. A Victim Impact Statement provides the victim an opportunity to express their feelings about the crime while also providing the court with essential information.

@BobSegallWTHR

Richard Allen is sentenced to 130 years in prison for the murders of Abby Williams and Libby German. Judge Frances Gull told *Alan “you rank right up there with the most hideous crimes” she has seen in her 27 years on the bench.

Now that the sentence has been passed and the gag order lifted, I am hoping we hear from the families. They deserve a voice and they deserve for the world to know exactly how Richard Allen has destroyed their lives.

I am also curious about whether we will see any of the discovery, particularly Libby's video and the interrogation videos. It seems that was of particular interest to the jury so I would be curious to see how RA presents himself in those interrogation videos and whether he looks/sounds similar to Bridge Guy.

Thank you, @tlcya. I do understand that the court is the judge. :)

His attorneys say they plan to appeal. “Richard Allen maintains his innocence,” they wrote in a sentencing memo ahead of Friday’s sentencing.
Delphi murders: Richard Allen sentenced to 130 years for killing Indiana teens

Good luck with that. I feel that his defense counsel gave up entirely once they were unable to use their Odinist ritual killing defense and went straight to focusing on their appeal so the above isn't news. I don't think it will get them anywhere but they will try. Hopefully they put more effort into his appeal then they did defending him at trial. MOO
