I think you're correct. I don't think sketches or anything else was released to the public until the 17th. (I may have to track down a link for that, though... my memory could be wrong on that aspect)

The sheet said that on Feb. 16, 2017 -- three days after the murders -- a person listed as "Richard Allen Whiteman" self-reported being on the trails between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on the day of the crime. According to Shank, the self-reporter listed seeing three girls.

On Wednesday, February 15th, law enforcement officers distributed a photograph of a person observed on the Delphi Historic Trail. The photograph appears to depict a white male wearing blue jeans, a blue coat/jacket, and a hoodie. During the course of the investigation, preliminary evidence has led investigators to believe the person, in the distributed photograph, is a suspect in the investigation of the homicides of Abigail Williams and Liberty German.

Defense rests. First action of the day.
Downtime while prosecution asks for time to get witnesses there for rebuttal. 2/

Among witnesses, psychiatrist who treated Richard Allen at Westville Correctional Facility says he diagnosed an antipsychotic drug in April 2023 after Allen showed signs of psychosis. Drug administered lasted until June 2023
After 7 weeks of no signs of psychosis, doctor says…

… Allen had improved enough to stop the involuntary injections. That was June 20, 2023.

Same day, doctor says, Allen confessed, saying he wanted to “apologize to the families of my victims.”

Doctor says it came under no duress or pressure. 4/

Cross examination for doctor coming after lunch break. More later. 5/

Thank you for clarification (and links)! Much appreciated!

12:43 P.M.

At 10:25 a.m., court went back into session and both sides approached the bench — the jury had not returned to the courtroom.

At 10:52 a.m., court went back into session and the prosecution said their witness was ready to testify.

The jury was seated at 11 a.m.

Diener called their witness, Breann Wilbur to the stand.

Diener asked Wilbur if she had a Snapchat photo of the Freedom Bridge taken on Feb. 13, 2017.

Wilbur said she did. The photo was introduced as state’s exhibit #318.

Defense attorney Andrew Baldwin asked when Wilbur gave Diener the bridge photo.

Wilbur said she didn’t know exactly when she supplied the photo, but it was before her testimony earlier in the trial.

The photo, taken in a sequence with others, indicates Wilbur arrived at the bridge at 12:25 p.m., according to News 8’s Kyla Russell.

Wilbur said she walked from Freedom Bridge to the Monon High Bridge but did not see “Bridge Guy” or Abby and Libby on her walk.

Baldwin said Wilbur had a good memory and asked her about remembering details of Feb. 13, 2017.

Diener interjected and said Wilbur was interviewed shortly after the murders.

A short time later, Wilbur was allowed to step down.

Next to testify is Brian Harshman, the Westville correctional officer who listened to Allen’s phone calls from jail.

He confirmed that Richard Allen has been in a one-man cell at Westville, Wabash, and Cass County.

Harshman said that Allen has a chair in his cell in Cass County and that the cell is bigger than the one at Westville was.

He told the court that there is less human interaction in Cass County than in Westville and that Allen has no “neighbors.”

Harshman also said that Richard Allen threatened the staff at Cass County.

Dr. John Martin, a licensed psychiatrist with 40+ years of experience in corrections, was next to testify.

Martin said he started working at Westville as third-party contractor in Feb. 2022 and began seeing Allen that November.

He said he would type up notes on his computer after meeting with Allen and that the computer system was “secure” — no one else had access.

Martin told the court he would prescribe Allen medication and knew Allen was on Prozac before arriving at Westville. He said he also had a record of when Allen took his medication because staff members would initial a certain log if he was successful.

The state introduced two exhibits including records of medications ordered for Richard Allen and medication logs signed by staff.

Martin said Allen was kept in “what could be referred to as solitary confinement, others say ‘one man cell.’”

He added that solitary confinement has a “punitive reason,” while a one-man cell does not.

“Mr. Allen had not done anything wrong, and yet he was being treated as though he had, or at least that’s what he could have felt,” Martin told the court.

He said that the prison had a responsibility to keep him safe and there were “many meetings” to ‘make life more comfortable” for Allen.

Martin said he knew Allen had suicide companions and had expressed suicidal interests. He also knew that Allen was sometimes moved to be seen by himself or Dr. Wala.

For some reason it's blocked the image, but it can be seen at the link ISP: "We're going to track them down"

Indiana State Police released the photo below on Wednesday. They say this man was on the Delphi Historic Trail around the time that Abby and Libby were there. They want to speak to him about what he may have seen.

Thank you, too @Tortoise ! Correction and clarification of these small details are important, imo!!

Coincidental that it occurred at 1745hrs, milliseconds after an attempted voice call was made to that phone?

A phone call comes in. The phone vibrates to alert, either with or without the ringer sound on. If there is moisture or dirt on the external edge of the headphone jack, the vibrations jolts them enough that they move inside headphone jack, completing the circuit and making the phone think something was plugged in.

Personally, I vote for moisture, which then evaporated enough later on for that circuit to no longer be completed.

I don't think the phone got drenched crossing the creek. I think it was damp and the case it was in afforded it some protection. But it doesn't take a lot of moisture to confuse an audio jack--far less than an amount would register as water damage to the phone or show up as lasting damage to internal circuitry.

Cheers saved me trawling through. Knew that was correct.
Also important to note that LE hadn't labelled the guy in the picture as a suspect when they first released the picture. Just someone that was on the trails at the time the girls were there and they would like to speak to them.
The suspect angle came a few days after the initial release.

He testified that he saw Allen again in April 2023 after he got a “phone call that prompted him to visit Allen unplanned.”

Martin said he saw Allen lying naked on a cell mattress with feces smeared on his body.

He told prison staff he needed to see Allen and “they practically dragged him” to a shower cell and gave him a gown, Martin recalled.

Martin said it was at this point he decided Allen was “psychotic.”

He told the court that in order to treat Allen’s psychosis, he had to put him on an antipsychotic medication.

Martin explained he wanted to put Allen on Haldol (Haloperidol), an antipsychotic drug commonly used to treat schizophrenia, but Allen’s mental state was such that he could not consent to treatment.

I'm sure this has been gone over in detail here, but IPX protection for iPhones (water and dust ingress) began with the 7 series. AFAIK, the 6 had none, making it relatively vulnerable to damp and dirt, with variable results.

Original iPhone to iPhone 6 PlusNoneNone
    iPhone 7/iPhone 7 Plus1 meter up to 30 minutesIP67
  • IPX0: No protection from water ingress.

"Martin testified that he first saw evidence of psychosis on April 13, 2023, when Allen was found lying naked in his cell with feces smeared on his body. Allen was later injected with anti-psychotic drugs.

By April 25, 2023, Martin said he saw improvements in Allen's mental state. By May 2, 2023, there were no signs of psychosis, Martin testified. Psychotic symptoms were apparent again on May 8 and 9, 2023, but disappeared shortly after. When he met with Allen on May 23, 2023 and again a week later, he saw no signs of psychosis, Martin testified.

On June 20, 2023, Martin said he decided to stop giving Allen anti-psychotic medication after meeting with him again and finding no evidence of psychosis.

"That day, he said to me," Martin testified, "'I'd like to apologize to the families of Abby and Libby.'"

IIRC, the day of the murders was described as unseasonably warm & searchers were concerned with the night being cold. Metals (think of contact areas here) would remain warm for some time after sunset & the following cold night would tend to accumulate some type of moisture. If the following morning were foggy, even just for a brief period, that would also increase the likelihood of moisture accumulation

The phone was also close to a water source which makes these areas have more condensation than those further away. I have driven across 3 different creeks/rivers on my way to work for over 30 years - quite common for fog to be heavier or even isolated around them.
