NG Verdicts. Jurors' Explanations?

@fcavanaugh Thx for your post discussing possible interpretations of a not-guilty verdict. :)

You mentioned a case in which jurors gave explanations about their reasoning for a NG verdict, despite thinking def't Levi likely/probably killed his wife.

Not trying to encourage discussion in THIS thread about details of a case other than RA's trial, but perhaps this is the case you thought of?
Levi Chavez - Wikipedia
"Levi Chavez is a former police officer in Albuquerque, New Mexico, who was charged with the 2007 death of his 26-year-old wife, Tera Chavez. In August 2013, Chavez was acquitted of the murder charges."

Naturally WS has threads on Levi Chavez. Thread @2 starts during 'Verdict Watch' for his trial, so might be good to read, discuss there.

BTW, making no comment on, comparison to, or prediction w RA.
Yes that’s the one!
Thank you @al66pine!! :)

My sentiments exactly.

These YouTubers are not trained journalists. Journalism is a profession, with rules and guidelines.

Sorry, journalism is not an actual profession. Its more of a vocation. There is no licensing of journalists, no governing body and no code of ethics. Anyone can claim to be a "journalist". Journalists can lie and slant their coverage without repercussions, unless they slander or libel someone, and proving such a thing is fairly difficult. Anyone can call themself a journalist. JMO

I’ve definitely seen a few folks that seem to be knowledgeable, but absolutely manipulate the facts to support whatever fanfic they have going on in their heads. Outright, blatant mistruths from attorneys covering this case as a hobby. It’s actually quite bizarre until you realize it’s all about the dollars and they don’t actually care about RA.

For those who follow Bob Motta, has he explained why he spent months promoting the claim the phone was turned on at 4.30am only for the defence to spring headphone theory?

Did Baldwin deceive him? Has he made any attempt to reconcile the totally inconsistent things he has been claiming?

I agree with @m00c0w. If this is regarded as OK, why can't Baldwin just have his own youtube channel during the trial and do lives? What would be the difference?

I am genuinely interested in what other posters make of this if it is going to become "a thing" for big trials.

MOO

Why would character witnesses be called in the defenses case? Those are usually called in a punishment phase in most trials I follow, I don’t find that odd at all that they didn’t.
I agree, the defense did their job and showed that it was impossible that the state proved their case beyond a reasonable doubt and that was their job. JMO

It speaks volumes IMO that they couldn’t find ANYONE to get up on the stand and talk about how he could never have done this, he’s such a good guy etc. At best maybe a stray coworker here and there thought RA was an alright dude. At worst, well, one can imagine. By RA’s own admission even his “friends” were quick to believe he could have done it

Why does it speak volumes?

It's inadmissible in a criminal trial.

Just my guess - but maybe the headphone thing was a last minute decision for the defense?

ETA. I don’t follow Bob Motta.

This is simply not true.

I’m referring to journalists who have credentials upon graduating from a reputable school of journalism. It is most definitely a profession.

There is absolutely a code of ethics. I can recall several journalists who were fired because they crafted fake stories or added in some bogus information to make their stories scintillating. One even was a Pulitzer Prize winner.

Mainstream TV media journalists also have gotten fired when they cross a line.

No one fires YouTubers because no one hired them. They are just ordinary people who can get on the internet.

And they're often not legally trained. Some are ofc, but I like to hear from lawyers who can explain the nitty gritty.

True, indeed.

Decades ago, when my twin sister was married to her first husband, a guy she knew since we were 14, her sister-in-law gave birth to a truly beautiful baby girl.

The father, my sister’s brother-in-law, was a police officer. He died and his daughter kept his nightstick as a memento.

When I was pregnant, this daughter went with me to pick out a crib.

About five years ago, she took her father’s nightstick and beat her mother and grandmother to death.

She was the first baby born in the family, before my sister and I had kids and before I had grandchildren. She was smothered with love and attention.

Looking at her no one would think it possible, but she did do it and is in prison.

It happens. Even in a wealthy, loving family, which they were.

Gosh, @Arkay
What a terrible and sad story. I’m sorry that happened, and sorry it happened in your circles.

Oh I think there are several undecided jurors. That’s why I expected this to take into early next week.

Good question about Veterans Day. Not sure.
I wonder how long Judge Gull will force them to keep deliberating if they can't settle on guilty or not guilty. Too bad there isn't a choice of "unproven" since it's the state's responsibility to prove. I guess that is the same as a hung jury but still "hung jury" has such a negative connotation.

Based on the jury questions I believe the most likely scenario is that there are 10-11 jurors that know the prosecution did not prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt and there are 1 or 2 that are stuck on the false confessions Richard gave and will need to be convinced by the others that those were tortured out of him or there will be a hung jury.

Thank you. I didn't know how to word a proper reply and you took care of it.

Anyone cannot just call themselves a journalist and be considered a journalist.

Maybe they have reached a verdict, but want to sleep on it and wait till tomorrow to announce it… So decided not to come in until 10:00. (Not needing the full-time to deliberate.)
I can't imagine them wanting to keep any of the families waiting another night if they didn't have to. moooo.
