VERDICT WATCH Abby & Libby - The Delphi Murders - Richard Allen Arrested - #214

IMO, they may reached a verdict and wanted to sleep on it. Come back Monday and either confirm or continue debating. Who knows?

I can't see them wanting to do that since they are sequestered and not working tomorrow. At least some of them must want to be reunited with their families.

Maybe they have been permitted a visit from family. Would the judge permit overnight visits from family members?

What's more, McLeland said, an Indiana State Police officer who had become familiar with Allen's voice after spending countless hours listening to all 700 of his prison calls to his family, identified his voice as belonging to Bridge Guy.

In the infamous video that Libby took minutes before she and Abby vanished, Bridge Guy told the girls to, "Go down the hill."

That man's voice, ISP master trooper Brian Harshman told jurors, belonged to Allen, McLeland said.

"Now all the pieces are clear," McLeland said. "All the pieces are put together."

In his final words to jurors, McLeland went back to Allen's own words.

"Richard Allen said a lot of words to a lot of different people," he said, adding that he gave detailed confessions to Wala, his therapist, because he trusted her. "Words matter."

McLeland left jurors with somewhat of a tribute to Libby German, who recorded the 43-second video that later became a key piece of evidence in the investigation of her own death. He reminded jurors of Becky Patty, Libby's grandmother, who said the 14-year-old's ambition was to help police solve crimes.

"She did that," McLeland said.

I don’t as they have every reason to lie. He claimwe he did it so I have no reason to not believe him. He has zero reason to lie about something so sick and sinister.

Imo
Agreed. Besides, with her brother on trial for murder, who in their right mind is going to drag those types of skeletons out of the closet?

MOO

So, who thought this was going to be a slam dunk quick deliberation and verdict regardless of the outcome?
The quickest return of a guilty verdict that I am aware of happened in 1920. The jury came back in 2 minutes flat - unanimously. Given how long the deliberations are taking, I imagine the jury is having some really interesting discussions and its not as cut and dry or clear to them as people on either side had hoped it would be. Mooo.

I don’t think so. That would defeat the sequestration.

If it was the Holeman Interview the jury wanted, well here are a few points out of it:

● Allen told Holeman no one had ever borrowed his Sig Sauer, his clothes, or his car. He never carried his gun unless he went fishing or mushroom hunting, he told the investigator. He said he didn’t have the Sig Sauer with him on Feb. 13, 2017, and couldn’t explain why a round linked to the firearm was found near the bodies of Abby Williams and Libby German.

● While Allen was asked how he typically carried a gun and confirmed he would “normally carry” in a side holster, he denied giving further answers. This led Holeman to try a different tactic.

● Holeman also told Allen “I’m not lying to you, that’s not ethical.” With the death penalty on the line, Allen then said “I don’t care, kill me, I want to die anyway.”

● Holeman stated that while troopers were searching his house, Richard Allen said “I don’t care, it’s over.” Holeman initially did not know what this meant, so Allen reportedly said the “interview explained it.”

● Holeman then added that a trooper told Allen he was not a bad person. Allen responded to this, asking “What kind of good person would kill two girls?”
That trooper advised Allen he was free to leave. Allen said he was done but continued to talk, Holeman said. According to him, Allen then stated “You have all the evidence, just arrest me.”

● Holeman said he believed the sticks were used to camouflage the girls’ bodies, rather than be used to position them in a certain way.
He does, however, think Allen “…may have heard somebody”, such as a car, that interrupted him during the murder. “Before he killed them, after, I don’t know.”

2 minutes! Wow!

That person must have been totally guilty under the law.

That is really short!

Assuming the catfishing was occurring & RA was involved, the communication was only between shots & LG. KK always claimed LG was annoying to him. It’s possible RA wasn’t expecting a 2nd girl until he saw them walk past him. I do like where you’re going with the AW & her mom angle.

It’s also feasible it was only KKs acct being used & RA was on the other end all along when msg’ing LG.

So many puzzles to all of it.

MOO
I've often wondered if Libby's interest in criminology played a part in her being annoying to KK. Why did the girls want to go to the bridge when they did that day?

As we’re anxiously awaiting the verdict and as probably many are, I’m on pins and needles and but trying to prepare myself for if the Jury foreman notifies the Judge on Monday that they’re at an impasse, the Judge will either send them back to continue deliberating or declare a mistrial.

My guess is JG will send them back to continue deliberations at lease once before declaring mistrial, so we may possibly be waiting a bit longer ugh.
We shall see.

May justice prevail for Abby and Libby!

When they first got the case I thought early next week. There was just no way this was going to be quick, as they have so much to review.

It must be tough only having their notes to refer to regarding the various testimonies. Even reporters often couldn’t scribe fast enough. So I can easily imagine there are some differences in their individual recollect. JMO

This makes it clear to me -- LE was asking the obvious question for years --

The girls were abducted.
The girls were forced to undress.
One girl was redressed (before the lethal injury) in clothes that weren't hers.

Why? Why to all of that? Why abduct two girls with the obvious purpose of SA and then not SA them (in a way that would leave obvious signs of that having been done?

RA answers.

He was interrupted. (Later to be identified as the white van at around 2:30)

Another bit of the plot answered by RA himself.

More from the Holeman Interview:

"In the video, Kathy Allen enters the room and hugs her husband.

“It’s going to be all right,” Allen tells his wife.

He tells her that he “can’t believe” she thinks he committed the murders.

“You know me. You know this isn’t something I could do,” Allen says. “I’m not going to sit here and convince you. I know you know I didn’t do this.”

Kathy Allen asks her husband how the bullet from his gun ended up at the crime scene, adding, “They are going to come after you and I don’t know how to answer that.”
