No that is not what happened.

RA left a tip on 16th Feb.

In 2022 they ask him why he made contact in 2017. He said his wife said they want to speak to everybody and so he claims he went to the sheriff's office to leave his details. That is only RA's word that he went in person, it is not evidence from LE.

DD then called him on 18th Feb and said he could come to RA's house or RA could come into the station, for interview.

RA said to DD meet me in the grocery store parking lot.
Is there any indication that RA and DD knew each other previously? Sorry if it’s been covered and I missed it … TIA

I agree with the other poster's suggestion that maybe RA called LE tip line in the presence of his wife since this was after the still frame from the video was released. RA probably tried to get ahead of that and his wife might have said it was you and he said, yeh that looks like me. Let me call them even though I didn't see the girls or the perpetrator (that looked like me).

His wife would have been placated because nobody from LE came to him for 5 years...so in her mind, he could always say he was cleared.
That reminded me of the reported comment she made during one of the interrogations that she thought he told her he wasn't on the bridge that day. That makes me think that, whatever else she is currently thinking, she always wondered about his involvement.

I wouldn't remember some conversation I'd had 5 years earlier with someone about whether or not I was somewhere unless it was something that really bothered me.

I think everyday for those five years, she silently suspected he wasn't being honest about what happened that day.

Yes. But we need to get that corroborated. I definitely heard it mentioned on one of the trial reporters notes. A lot also said she was inaudible much of the time from their vantage point.
And if that was the case, and she did say that then why not get it noted officially.
One would have thought they got her in the interrogation room on her own at the same time they Got Allen in?
A simple " So Mrs Allen, can you describe for us exactly what your husband said about his recollection of the day in question?
Time frame, what he was wearing. Where he went?"

KA: "Well for starters, he said he was nowhere near that bridge!"

Bingo

How many versions of this do we have?

My understanding is that additional time was needed to prepare the pre sentencing report that Judge Gull will use as a guide in determining the appropriate sentence. Those reports require the input of more than just one individual IMO

But I have no link so give it as little weight as you wish.

I listened to Lawyer Lee's Confessions video again. She says that Richard Allen said that after his wife suggested he go talk to the police, he says he went to the police station and filled out some forms.

Then later he got a call from Dan Dulin, the conservation officer, as he was driving in his car. Richard Allen pulled over his car and since he was on the way to the grocery store, he said he could meet Dan Dulin there if that was ok.

People will say Richard Allen only said he went to the police station to fill out forms, but he was lying about ever doing that. It is up to you what you believe, but I definitely recommend watching Lawyer Lee's video titled Confessions.

This means I was wrong about what I wrote previously. If Richard Allen is telling the truth he went to speak to LE twice right after the murders, the first time to fill out some forms at the police station, and the second time when he was on his way to the grocery store and Dan Dulin, the conservation officer, called so Richard Allen told him to meet him at the grocery store if he wanted to talk.

I don't think opinion pieces from Lawyer Lee are facts and she is pretty biased.
Is there a link to support the information she is reporting from?

TIA.

I have never heard that in other sources.

From what I remembering, RA in the interrogation said he talked to Dulin in 2017 because his wife told him to do because he was on the trails. (I'm not sure if I believe in it).

Then he called the tipline, Dulin asked if he can talked to him in RA's house and RA said no, in the police station and RA said no, so they met in the grocery store. However, I think RA was on the way to the grocery store and according to the defense that's the reason why the interview was on he grocery store. I think when Dulin was talking about that, RA even write some note to Baldwin and Baldwin asked about RA was on the way to the grocery store.

He never went to the police station as far I know.

Agree. Defense attorneys admire defense, meaning the legal craft of getting out of conviction.

Not really admirable exept at the highest level where the ideal of defense is: In defemse of the US Constitution it's worth releasing any number guilty people in order to avoid one wrongful conviction.

Iris Eytan is a rock star in that world.

Lawyer Lee is an approved source here and probably not any more biased than any other of the approved sources.
I believe she attended the trial every day and I wouldn't consider her reports to be opinion pieces any more than all the other reports we've read from trial attendees. MOO

This Carroll County Comet article by the local reporter who covered the trial is worth reading: Moving forward - Carroll County Comet

A brief excerpt:

<modsnip for copyright>

Use whatever you are feeling and turn it into good. If you are angry, good; use that anger to harness heavy labor and help make the Abby and Libby Memorial Park beautiful. If you are sad, be sad, and when you are done, get up and find joy. If you are numb, sit in it for a while and then get up and find life, find something that makes you want to wake up each day and fight for it.

There is no closure from such a senseless act – there is only movement forward.

That was a great segment with Lawyer Lee. It puts Richard Allen's interrogation into perspective.

According to this, Richard Allen decided to go to the police station because his wife suggested it. They watch Dateline together. Police were asking for anyone who had been out on the Monon High Bridge trail that day to come forward. This is certainly different than the theory that Richard Allen saw his picture on the trail cam on February 15th and decided he needed to come forward.

He went to the police station too. He did not decide to forget about it or tell his wife he would get to it later. He did not go to the bar or drive into the police station parking lot and then leave. He went to the police station and went inside to talk face to face with police because his wife suggested it. I thought he would have called the tipline instead, especially since he must think phone calls are not recorded.

This case certainly stands out for how much it appears the killer helped the police solve it.

Is the story told by Lawyer Lee in the video wrong about how Richard Allen ended up talking with the conservation officer? I always thought he just called the tipline, and then a meeting was set up later, but Richard Allen ended up meeting the conservation officer at the grocery store. Did Richard Allen actually go to the police station to talk about the case?
BBM
Yes, the story told by lawyer Lee is INCORRECT

DD offered to go to RA's house and RA Refused
DD asked RA to come to Police station and RA Refused
RA said he would meet him in store parking lot so that is where they met.

DAY 6 of Trial-- DD testifies at trial

Sorry for the redundant dumb question, as I recall RA phoned in the original tip and then DD phoned back to follow up, yes?
