Can anyone tell me if it was the FBI or ISP that took the lead on the Odenist part of the investigation?

Since Odinism/Odinists was not allowed as evidence in the trial, I can't confirm when this was introduced and/or investigated but can confirm that RA was first investigated in 2017, and again in October 2022.

We know from testimony at trial by ISP Supt Doug Carter that at his request, FBI ceased their involvement in the case in August 2021, and returned any evidence to ISP. In other words, FBI was no longer active in the investigation when RA was investigated and arrested in October 2022.

Further to the departure of the FBI by August 2021, take note the Defense's Motion for a Franks Hearing, accusing prosecutors of misconduct for failing to turn over evidence claiming the murders could have been committed by a white supremacist cult known as Odinism-- was filed on Sept 18, 2023, and another defense Motion on October 23, 2024-- suggesting “the sticks on the girls appear to be arranged in a pattern/arrangement.” The judge previously blocked a similar effort to allow the Odinism theory in court. Allen was first investigated in 2017 and again in October 2022. After a second police interview, he was taken into custody.

12:49 p.m.: Jury watches more video; state police superintendent testifies

Court returned from its recess at 11:05 a.m. After the jury entered, the defense recessed Max Baker and briefly paused the videos. State prosecutor Nick McLeland later said he would hold on his cross-examination of Baker until all the videos are watched.

The defense then called Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter to testify. Carter has been superintendent for almost 12 years, and said his role in Abby Williams and Libby German’s death investigation was a “support role.” He explained dozens of agencies were involved, including multiple nearby county agencies, ATF, FBI, and Homeland Security.

Carter said the FBI stopped their involvement in August 2021. Defense’s Andrew Baldwin showed Carter an email from the FBI, which Carter confirmed to the jury was his decision to release the FBI from the investigation. He also also requested the FBI return any evidence.

Ah, but Judge Gull had a master plan.

Didn't care about the gallery, she needed counsel and family to remain on standby.

RA was returned to jail while media on the lawn were watching for his arrival.

And to pull that off, Judge Gull needed the verdict read, RA removed (if found guilty) safely -- and the only way to do that, quietly.

It was IMO supremely disrespectful of the Defense & Co to hold up the process, one they'd been ordered to uphold.

Judge Gull IMO took her oath seriously, ensuring a fair trial and protecting RA rights, including and especially his safety.

I think all along she planned, in the event of a guilty verdict, to wisk RA out of the area post haste.

RA is enjoying his notoriety.
I hope after sentencing, he is lost amongst the many similar inmates, and he becomes insignificant.
BUT, I guess he will again act crazy to be noticed, and make headlines.
We then, skip reading any mention of this creep.

Thing is, you don't wake up one day at 47 and decide to go out and kill two girls. I apologise if this has been mentioned anywhere else, but do we have his criminal record?
The jury in this case disagreed with you and convicted RA after carefully deliberating and seeing the evidence. It happens far more often than we hear about and who knows what secrets RA could have hidden in his closet?

I think that was the point OP was making, that there were likely other, hidden precursors to this crime. That perhaps if he didn't have a criminal record, the crimes were unsolved or went unreported.

From this article it looks like the police, but I'll look further.

@KylaBRussell

Abby Williams and Libby German were months younger than me. In Feb. 2017, their lives were taken far too early in #Delphi

They should be graduating college, starting their careers, and navigating life in their early 20s, just like I am.

It was an honor to spend the last month covering their double murders trial for @WISHNews8 — a weekslong reminder to hold your people close, give that extra hug, and cherish every moment in between.

We will continue to bring you the latest, including from Richard Allen’s sentencing on Dec. 20.

It wasn’t really their fault though— they had announced that verdict would be read at 3pm, then delivered it early… I’ll let this one pass…
Seems to me the attorneys and the families were expected inside the courtroom in advance of others and one of the defense attorney's and RA's family remained somewhere downstairs in the courthouse, and somebody had to go collect them when their absence prevented the Court from bringing in the jury. No doubt this frosted Judge Gull! Reportedly, once all were seated, delivering the verdict took less than 3 minutes.

Shout out to all the local reporters who did such a good job of covering the case. It's obviously been emotional for them and their care and concern is noted.

After Richard Allen, formerly known as Bridge Guy, is sentenced in December, I hope the next time we hear his name is because he's caught another charge for biting a guard or a fellow inmate.

Balwin cuddling RA in court like his mommy.
TBH, there are always individuals who simply enjoy being contrarians and use high profile cases like this in order to argue incessantly against popular opinion, regardless of what it is. Social media has definitely encouraged people like that because it gives them a forum to play devil’s advocate and an audience. Like you said, worst part of all of that— from strangers on YouTube who think their opinions are truths that need constant airing to retired professionals from the justice system who feel compelled by attention whether it’s good or bad— is that potential jurors and the public at large can develop a warped view of what “reasonable doubt” is and become incredibly cynical about evidence, especially when it’s circumstantial. It’s akin to the CSI effect where laypeople expect a wealth of physical evidence, mostly DNA, and refuse to convict without it, regardless of the rest of the case.

I think a healthy majority of people who serve as jurors are intelligent enough to recognize hucksters like that when they see them, and are able to fairly judge a case based on its merits, but all it takes is one stubborn person to derail the outcome of a trial.
yes agree whole heartedly.

Just look at the nonstop...'no RA dna!!!! no RA dna!!! no RA dna!!!"

There is no ones DNA.

Someone killed the girls though didnt they.?? AND left no detectible DNA. Facts.

It doesn't rule RA in or out. Or anyone else for that matter.
It simply was a mute cancellation to the case....irrelevant line to desperately cling to.

Very disturbing that truth can be so distorted and naïvely sucked up.
Its the defences job to do this. Its nothing knew. What is knew is the masses of people who have an idea that the defence is suddenly the warriors of justice.
crazy!!!

@BobSegallWTHR

Leaving #Delphi tonight after being here for nearly 4 full weeks. Just a few things to pass along…1. From a visual standpoint, things are starting to return to pre-trial Delphi. The barricades & barriers have been hauled away and courthouse square is now fully open.

2. How strange to be able to walk into any Carroll County courthouse entrance freely with no signs of police, sheriff deputies or security anywhere. Inside the courthouse, security has returned to how it was before the Delphi murders trial. That would be no security at all.

3. The metal detectors purchased for the trial are no longer being monitored. I’m told they don’t need to be. No metal detectors used at the CC courthouse prior to this trial. No need for them now.

4. The town is still painted purple and light blue in honor of Abby and Libby with downtown businesses showing support for the murdered girls and their families.

5. Talked to five different Delphi residents today. Four think the jury got its verdict right. One isn’t sure. All said they think the trial gave a sense of closure the town has been needing for 7 1/2 years.

6. My final stop before leaving Delphi after this 4-week trial:
where this tragic case began.

My producer & I visited the Monon High Bridge.
So quiet.
So beautiful.
So sad.

This crime changed #Delphi.Covering the crime & trial changed me in ways I cannot explain.

I think you nailed it right here. I would hazard a guess RA's attachment to K is much more about what she symbolizes than anything to do with her as a person or how desirable or not desirable she is to him. With her, he's a married man, a father, a provider, whatever. She is a key part in maintaining his illusion of being a normal, successful, well-adjusted and functioning man in society and without her it is much more difficult for him to fend off the deep feelings of inferiority and fear of people thinking poorly of him, things that have seemingly plagued him for a very, very long time if not his entire life.

We know he certainly wasn't thriving in the working world. He doesn't seem to have been particularly well-liked or had a lot of friends. What else is left to measure any success (and again, normalcy) in his life other than his marriage? I think the fact that he professes to care so much about her but repeatedly ignores how she is feeling, even when she's expressly asking him to do/not to do something (i.e. in the interrogation w/ Holeman and prison calls) supports this. It's all about him, and how he needs her to make him feel.

Eta I recall Holeman noting in the interrogation, when they were just chatting before things got serious, that RA seemed particularly proud of the fact that he owned his home. Another thing crossed off on RA's list of "how to be normal" imo
One thing that has stood out to me

The only defenders of RA are his unethical attorneys, his wife and mother, father. (well, along with the DooDue gang administered by the D team and their minion Youtubers)

But on a PERSONAL Level --
I have not seen one friend, co-worker, neighbor protest in his defense.
