While I agree some people are that dumb, i think he would have been caught up in the sweep if he had a phone with him that was connected to the towers. Every other phone seems to have been run down. I also had the understanding that many of the phones they came up with from the dumps were not even at the trails.

Maybe one day someone will ask the FBI Cast dude about all this. But i suspect it's only of academic interest to people like us because RA was never in those lists. If he were, then that evidence would have come up at trial.

True. Except that in another trial, the Defendant's phone was thrown out by the judge. No mention of it during the trial. Had to seem weird to the jury.

So maybe Gull included that in geo fence ruling. Would confuse the jury to have the State claim a number belonged RA and the Defense saying it belonged to a SODDI.

I hope we get answers on this, even if only to satisfy my personal curiosity.

I think if those things had happened we would have seen it in the pre-trial pleadings?

From what I read, Richard Allen was driving when he got the call from DD, the conservation officer(CO). He pulled over to talk to DD and they decided to meet at the grocery store. The problem is if he is in his car, how would he know to have the burner phone with him to give to DD instead of the real one he had with him on the trail? Did he just keep it in his pocket ready at all times for when LE called to meet up to talk about the tip? Can the burner phone also be used to look up a stock ticker?
Prepaid (burner) phones can have internet access. I doubt RA was looking at stock tickers, though. If he had a burner, it was for other reasons, to keep his secrets away from his family. I still picture him sitting in his car when his wife snuck up on him.

I think he had a burner phone when he was on the trail, not his real phone. Or maybe both, with the real one in airplane mode. He easily could have kept the burner in his glove box.

I don’t think RA had any phone with him that day at the trails. The stock ticker tale was just part of his weaving a little benign story about him being there.
It didn’t matter at all if he gave his phone over to DD to get the ID# off of it. He still got rid of it…just in case.

I’m so GLAD you mentioned his reaction when his wife snuck upon him when he was in the car. I noted that too - phone in hand in front of him, RA simultaneously looked like he was BUSTED and ANNOYED… and I’d wondered if he’d been using his phone to view illicit images when his wife surprised him.

I've never seen that stated in MSM, do you happen to have a link to that? I was under the impression RA was at home and refused DD's offer to come to LE HQ or have DD come to his home when DD called him.

After searching many articles, I finally found where I saw the info about Richard Allen receiving the phone call from DD, the conservation officer. It was in the October 30, 2024 Carroll County Comet article titled, "I didn't do it".

It turns out the information about Richard Allen driving and pulling over when he received the phone call from DD came from Richard Allen himself. My guess is people will say that Richard Allen was lying during his interrogation about being in the car and receiving the phone call from DD.

My speculation is about asking questions to confirm strange things about this case regarding the phone. Sometimes criminals are not that smart and this case is definitely a good example. I know it would be shocking if he was not the killer due to so much circumstantial evidence against him.

But in the Evansdale murder case, which took place within a park in town, I read the only thing investigators found were the two girls' bikes laying along the bike path. As far as I have read, they never even had an eyewitness or sketch of a person they believe may have abducted those girls. Please correct me if I am wrong. What it shows is that even in a park in town with other people around, someone can walk in and walk out without ever being seen. Or maybe the killer in that case self-reported being there and the tip has not been found yet.

Thanks for finding that. I'm sorry but I do believe RA began lying from the moment his car headed to the MHB on Feb 13th 2017. After 5 years, he thought he was in the clear hiding in plain sight.

Circumstantial evidence can hold as much weight as direct evidence, especially when the accused freely places himself at the murder scene at the same time of day, wearing the same clothing and having encountered 3 (4) young young witnesses whom he admittedly saw and described and which they also saw and described him. Plus the adult witnesses. Too many coincidences to be a coincidence.

RA's 60+ confessions of guilt notwithstanding.

yeah +1

I just do not see this guy as a sophisticated killer with burner phone etc. He probably just turned his phone off on the way to his sex offending.

He got drunk and went out and did the murders despite being seen by 6 eye witnesses - and he knew about the girls and BB before he did the murders anyway.

I suspect his confession is as close as we get to his 'plan'

He wanted to do a rape, and things got out of hand. Which is not unusual in these sorts of abductions. Killer loses control of the situation or his impulses.

I would not all be surprised if this guy attacked women before.

Going back to the cell number/MEID thing with DD.

So from this article, if RA is telling the truth, we know LE had a cell phone number belonging to him. He would know the number (landline or cell) they had so no reason for him to lie IMO.

Mullin asked about why Allen reported being on the trail on Feb. 13, 2017.

“It was the next day or a couple of days later,” he said. “I went down because my wife said they wanted to talk to anyone who had been there.”

Mullin then asked about Allen’s meeting with Conservation Officer Dan Dulin shortly after he reported the tip.

“He called when I was in the car,” he said. “I pulled over to talk to him. I was headed to Save A Lot, and I told him I could just meet him there.”

As the interview went on, Mullin asked Allen if he could examine his phone.

“How long you gonna have my phone?” Allen asked.

LE had the number but not the device ID - DD copied that down since he assumed they already had the cell number. What we don’t know for sure was if he had a 2nd or burner phone. I tend to think he either didn’t have his phone or if he did, it was in airplane mode/cellular off or was turned off altogether. Of note, no witnesses said they saw a guy looking at his cell phone while standing in the bridge.

Seriously does this Defense EVER get anything right? It doesn't surprise me that Baldwin would be filing prematurely, he's chomping at the bit to say the least.

IIRC, he filed a request for a hearing 5 days after his initial motion. A bit hasty, it seemed.

Richard Allen revised his time he was on the trail durinf questioning to a time where the same girls were making a full loop. He was not there earlier.

They saw him, he saw them.

The other witness that saw RA on MHB platform 1 as she walked the whole loop from parking at Mears walikkng to MHB, MHB to FB, FB and back to Mears. No RA.

When she turned around at MHB to walk back toward FB she passed the girls on their way to MHB right where the trail bends slightly and opens a view to the bridge (midway between Mears and MHB.)
RA would have seen A&L as he left the platform, as he said to "sit on a bench."
The witness walked to FB turned and walked back to Mears. R A was not on the trail.

RicciDavis says that ABaldwin was hinting me to lie for him and his client.

TMS acknowledges that RD is a liar.... so maybe he's lying about this too.

But if he isn't.....
