This is FOX 59's account of the state troopers' testimony (Vido and Holeman) at the end of the day:

State Trooper Dave Vido and ISP Lt. Jerry Holeman were the last to take the stand on Thursday. Both gave further testimony about the search of Allen’s home.

Allen reportedly owned “lots of knives,” according to Vido, along with boxcutters. More than 10 phones were seized from Allen’s home but, again, police noted the phone Allen possessed in February 2017 was not found.

Vido also mentioned the .40 caliber round being found in a “keepsake box” in Allen’s home. He also told jurors how a metal detector was used to search Allen’s yard.

Holeman recounted telling Allen about how he shouldn’t worry about any damage done to his home during the search because Allen could fill out a form and have it all repaired.

Holeman claims Allen responded by saying, “why bother, it’s all over.” Holeman claimed Allen repeated this line when later asked if he wanted to be taken to see his wife. It should be noted that Richard Allen was already told prior to the search of his home that he was a suspect in the girls’ murders.

Defense attorneys finished the day by pushing back against Holeman’s story by stating there were no recordings of Allen telling the state trooper, “why bother, it’s all over” and the jury only had to take the state trooper’s word for it being said.

After a 15-minute break, the trial resumed with Indiana State Police Trooper David Vito taking the stand. He’s served as an investigator in the Delphi Murders.

Vito was involved in searching the home of suspect Richard Allen on Oct. 13, 2022, and taking photos there that day and other days. Jurors were shown the photos.

Some photos showed a workbench at Allen’s home that contained knives and box cutters. Knives were also photographed in the master bedroom.

The photos included a gun and ammunition found in Allen’s home. A closet gun case was also photographed.

Coats, including a blue jacket, also were photographed.

Some items, including two dozen box-cutter knives, were taken to a state police post.

Vito, in response a question from defense attorney Jennifer Auger, said he was not aware of any connections to the murdered girls, Abby Williams and Libby German, from the blue jacket, his car, or the knives.

Next to testify was Indiana State Police Lt. Jerry Holeman. He supervised the search of Allen’s home on Oct. 13, 2022. He did an initial walk-through of the home, and then waited outside while police searched inside. He sat inside a car with Allen while the search was underway.

At one point while Holeman and Allen were in the car, the lieutenant asked if Allen wanted to fill out a form for items damaged in the search. Holeman said Allen responded, “It doesn’t matter. It’s over.”

Holeman then opened a box containing the gun found at Allen’s home. He gave it a quick check to assure it was safe to display to jurors.

On cross-examination, Holeman confirmed that Allen was a suspect at the time his home was searched. Holeman also noted that a bullet can be damaged when it’s handled for investigations.

The more that comes out about how RA reacted to various points of being investigated the more convinced I become that they have the right man. He seems to swing wildly back and forth between insisting he has nothing to do with this, almost disassociating completely from his (whether you think he is guilty or not) undeniably close proximity to the murders and a very defeated, helpless to control himself, I-deserve-everything-that-happens-to-me mindset. Almost like he feels like he can’t control what he says at points. Somebody who feels helpless in the face of their impulses and prone to extreme emotional highs and lows is exactly the kind of person that makes sense to have killed Abby and Libby given from what we know of the very violent, seemingly chaotic and somewhat perplexing (i.e the sticks + redressing of Abby) crime scene. JMO of course

Curious why what the girls say in the recording changed? I thought the entire video was played the other day in court and none of this was stated what they said except the reference to the path ending.

The acoustics are reportedly not very good so depending on where someone is sitting they may think they hear something different than others, is my guess.

ETA - The Murder Sheet guys thought they could hear Abby saying “freaking me out” prior to BG saying “Guys”.

I think you’d need to sit down with headphones to hear it clearly. That’s just not the environment where you’re going to be able to pick up on everything. I imagine the jury will have access to that video during their deliberations.

The blue coat was just a blue coat. They took it as part of the search warrant, in case it had relevance. There’s no guarantee it was or was not the coat RA wore to the trails 5 years prior.

The bloody muddy clothes probably where disposed of long before the search warrant. Same with any possible trophies. And the phone. For obvious reasons.

The gun and ammunition were kept. I'm guessing that RA didn't notice that he ejected a live round at the crime scene and since he didn't fire the gun he figured there's no way it could be tied to the murders.

It troubles me that they had nothing but him saying he had been on the bridge that day and then YEARS later decided that he HAD to be the guy who killed those kids. It almost feels like they did whatever they could to get a search warrant and then got perhaps lucky that they found a bullet. They then tossed him in PRISON without benefit of legal counsel initially! Then probably got lucky his mental health went south and he "confessed". I'm not a fan of the case by the State yet. The witnesses have not even described RA imo... I keep an open mind, but it is scary to think that the State could do this to someone and that someone in question could well be innocent!! MOOOOO.

It will be interesting to hear the juror's reactions to RA's imprisonment. I think the "keeping him there for his safety" will fly out the window when they hear the story behind that. MOO

Yes, the officer made the mistake. But as you can see from some of the posts here, it’s RA’s fault that the officer made that mistake, because he agreed to meet him in the parking lot at the grocery stores instead of at his own home or at the police department. (Kinda sarcasm, sorry)

I think the jury is putting this all together, bit by bit, in a thoughtful, serious way. They are not expecting "bombshell!" information like those of us who have followed the case for years are. Everything is new to them and they seem to be taking the pieces and putting them together.

I agree. From the questions the jury doesn't seem to expect "bombshell evidence" as if real life was like CSI. I think Nick said that in the voir dire. Many times a case is circunstancial, especially when they find the guy 6 years later and he had time to rid over the evidence..I don't think they have "a bombshell". They have bricks and bricks of circunstancial evidence that points to one person.

if they hadn't misfiled that interview with RA, the case would be a slam dunk and would be solved in the first week IMO. It is frustating.

I'm thinking eventually RA did realize he was missing a bullet. I wonder what went through his mind then. He could never relax once he realized he left it somewhere that day.

Maybe when Doug Carter said, "You want to know what we know," he was, in part, referring to the bullet they found.

No, that’s not true the officer taking the statement made the mistake. The name of that person hasn’t been mentioned. The tip was written up as Richard Allen of Whiteman (Dr) but by the time it was misfiled at the station it had been marked ‘cleared’ and was shortened to Richard Whiteman.

So far, there is no way to tie that round to the murders. I’m pretty skeptical that they’ll be able to prove beyond reasonable doubt that it “matches” a particular gun.

So far I haven't seen any witness in the trial point out that BG is RA or RA is BG so it is hard to say who was seen that day or not.

If I knew images existed out there of me on the news and what have you I would be keeping a low profile.

With this trial, however, it is still early days yet.

That's why I think the ammunition evidence can help. It may help bolster the toolmark evidence. JMO.

That's not at all how it went down. They had him saying he was on the bridge, and didn't DISCOVER they had that until YEARS later.

Once they did discover that, they conducted a follow up interview that gave them the probable cause to get a search warrant. They believed those girls had seen BG, he said he had seen the same girls, and was dressed like BG. That made it probable that BG and RA were one in the same.

That's enough to get a search warrant, and ultimately "why bother, it's all over." It's sure starting to look that way.
