GUILTY Abby & Libby - The Delphi Murders - Richard Allen Arrested - #217

This is the week, I'll be glad when RA is sentenced and he is old news. (already is in MSM)

Peace and healing for the families and loved ones of Abby & Libby, as I am sure this will be an emotional hearing.
Will KA protest the whole process, silent but with according expressions (angry shaking head)?

I am sure she will, but he has been found guilty. He will be sentenced for his crimes. She probably can't equate the man she has known for 30 plus years with the man that killed two children. It makes her think her whole life was a lie, and it most likely was. She obvioulsy never really looked at her husband closely because she may have noticed a very unhappy and cowardly man who didn't like his life. The best thing she can do is to seek counseling and move on. Just me rambling..

Hi everyone. What do you expect will happen at the sentencing on Friday? I understand from reading about sentencing hearings in felony cases in Indiana that defendants do have to appear in person for sentencing. However, I have followed other murder cases where the defendant has refused to come into the courtroom. Hopefully, this won’t happen, and they won’t have a problem bringing him in. It is terrible when the loved ones of murder victims are denied the opportunity to face killers who are responsible for the unimaginable pain, suffering, devastation and tremendous loss they will suffer for the rest of their lives and tell them to their face what they have done to them and their family.

I understand the defendant is able to speak to the judge, and he is able to make a statement via his attorney. He may give a feeble statement claiming to allegedly be sorry for what he has done, asking for forgiveness that I don’t think he will ever deserve and him possibly saying he hopes the girls' families can move on, which is impossible. It was reported that he was holding a bible as the verdict was read out, and it is baffling to me that someone in his position could possibly believe holding a bible is going to help him, that he possibly deserves forgiveness, and he could possibly be forgiven or that he could possibly go to heaven.

I can’t figure out what someone like him thinks and how he could murder two innocent teen girls in the brutal way he did. He hid in plain sight and must have known the girl’s loved ones were making appeals for information to try and find their killer all while he was free, going to work, socialising even posing for photos in a bar with posters with information on how to send in tips for murders he committed on the wall behind him. I really hope he doesn’t inflict any more suffering than he has already done with the words in the statement his attorney may read out or his behaviour during the sentencing. He may choose not to make a statement if he plans to appeal.

Could he potentially use his opportunity to make a statement via his attorney to protest his innocence? Will his wife and/or Mother be able to speak to claim he is innocent or talk about the great husband/son he has allegedly been to plead for less than the maximum sentence available to the judge? I don’t think the Judge will allow claims protesting his innocence and that he is allegedly the victim of a miscarriage of justice, and it should not be allowed. I hope he gets the maximum sentence with no possibility of parole and will be shocked if he doesn’t.

It is going to be another very tough day in court for Abigail and Libby’s loved ones. I’m glad the sentencing is happening before Christmas and New Year for the girl’s loved ones. I know every day must be extremely difficult, but hope the tremendous stress they have been suffering from the trial will lessen once the convicted murderer has been sentenced. It will be interesting to see if we get to hear from some of the jurors. I would like to hear how they came to a guilty verdict and what evidence they felt proved to them that he was the bridge guy responsible. All the jurors may choose not to speak publicly or to the media to remain anonymous and just want to go home to their families to spend Christmas with their loved ones and I completely understand and respect that. I hope the media, YouTubers, podcasters and his supporters leave the girl’s loved ones and the jurors alone.

Very well said. I wish I were more delicate or gentle with my opinions and/or expectations & I sincerely mean that as a compliment. Unfortunately, due to how I feel towards RA & his actions & lack there of, I’m a bit more direct.

Sure, I’d like him to admit guilt, apologize hand over foot & answer all the remaining questions. I feel he will continue to maintain his silence like the weak little creep he is. He has no reason to speak to anyone. He sat idly by watching those families suffer for a couple months shy of 8 years now. Why would he reconsider now, particularly with an almost guaranteed filing of an appeal?

He’s done nothing to show anything other than self preservation since BW’s van came rolling by the day of the murders. He’s a known liar & will go to any lengths to appear to others as he desires - nice, happy, loving father, noble husband, tough guy, innocent, crazy, religious, etc., <modsnip - unnecessarily graphic>

It’s anyone’s guess as to how <modsnip> will behave Friday & going forward, given the impending appeal filings. Delusional discussions & examination of testimonies & rehashing of related materials are still being thrown around in the usual places. None of them are beyond pointing the fingers at anyone they see fit. He will always be seen by them as being railroaded by everyone involved in the case for a myriad of reasons, anything from speculation of alleged drug rings or informants to arsons to corruption to jury rigging, take your pick. Presumably because "they’re all RA" as one rabid supporter put it after the verdict was read. Lawtubers, particularly the lowest of the bottom feeders, will milk the case for all they can until the bitter end, I suspect. Money talks.

TBH, I don’t care what occurs as long as everyone is civil & he is locked up for the rest of his life & unable to ever get out. Most of all, I would like for the families & friends to be able to walk out of that courthouse & finally be able to put their minds at ease & move forward, if even remotely possible.

I am most interested in the victim impact statements, the family will have the opportunity to direct their comments to the girls' killer and finally speak their piece after having been gagged from discussing the case for so long. I am also most interested in what RA's sentence will be. I have zero interest in hearing the mitigators defense will present because IMO we already heard many of them in the trial, mental health (but not mentally ill oh no), unjust imprisonment, medieval torture devices and all

Bring on the sentencing, it's time for the families to be able to move forward in peace knowing at least the girls' killer is where he belongs and will stay there.

At this point at least, it seems the <modsnip> have devolved into a group content to sing mostly to their own choir members.
An ever diminishing call and response of tired, old discredited and irrelevant theories and scenarios, soundly dismantled by sworn testimony at trial.
Justice has been served.<modsnip>

Thee sentencing should be heart wrenching. The turmoil for the families would be unimaginable. These crimes were brutal and senseless. No matter the sentence, they will never be the same. Always thinking what Abby or Libby would be doing now....wishing they could have done something to prevent the girls from going to the trails that day. RA's family wondering what they missed; not sure they can trust anyone anymore.
I tend to follow these cases because I always want to know the "why". Some cases are obvious, but this case isn't. I find it hard to believe that those closest to him didn't recognize any disturbing behavior from him. Was his wife curious about his collection of large knives? His keepsake bullet in a hope chest/case? Did he tend to become excited over dark slasher movies? How often did he hang out on the trails loitering around? Was it when the wife was away? What are your thoughts?

Bigger question is: why wouldn't his mother believe him?

The call from May 17, 2023, was between Allen and his mother.

“Did Kathy tell you I did it?” Allen asked his mother.

“We’re not going to discuss this, okay?” his mother, Janis, replied. “We love you. You know that, don’t you?”

“Regardless?” Allen asked. “I’m just worried you guys aren’t going to love me because I said I did it.”

“Just saying it doesn’t mean you did it,” his mother said.

“It does when I did,” Allen replied.

“Ricky, they’re just messing with you,” she said.

“No, Mom, they’re not,”
he said. “So if I said I did it, you wouldn’t love me anymore?”

“I will always love you no matter what. You can count on that,” his mother said.

Thank you for posting this info, @steeltowngirl. It was a big tell all for me. jmo

So is the death penalty not on the table for RA? What will the judge decide?
Just this last Wednesday, the state of IN executed their first inmate since 2009.
LWOP, is fitting. jmo

Sentence

In Indiana, an individual convicted of murder may be sentenced to between 45 to 65 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 per count. The advisory sentence is 55 years. The sentence could also be life imprisonment without the possibility of parole or the death penalty. The death penalty has not been sought in Allen’s case.

I too struggle to try to grasp the whys of it. Why that day, why those girls, why two, and so forth. I suspect it was the perfect storm of an urge he'd been struggling with to make himself feel powerful because he instead felt powerless, the girls were in the right place (far side of bridge) he had just enough alcohol in his system, he saw an opportunity and acted on it almost impulsively, because another opportunity may not come along for who knows how long.

Personal opinion RA had strong women (first in his mother and then in his spouse) in his life who were accustomed to calling the shots and he relied on them doing so even as he also in some ways resented it. I think the opportunity to overpower and intimidate two females was very attractive to him for that reason. I think it turned him on. I do believe at least one girl would have been raped had he not been interrupted.

Just my thoughts.

@NewsyBarbara

Ahead of Richard Allen's sentencing Friday, his defense seeks transcript of Allen's first court appearance when former sheriff's safekeeping motion was granted and then judge recused himself. Resulting in Allen going to max sec. prison and Gull being appointed Special Judge.

sigh how exactly do they think a transcript of that first court appearance is going to do to assist them in offering mitigators for their client? This just cements my belief that his mitigators are going to be a combination of our client still maintains his innocence and he was tortured in jail, the end. big nope for me, if that is what his defense presents I will be hard pressed to force myself watch it.

It's not unusual for a high profile Defendant to be housed in prison while awaiting trial, look at the recent Healthcare CEO shooter. He's being housed in a prison facility instead of the local jail. It happens, it does not make it a conspiracy. It is literally safe keeping.

I am ready for Friday to come and for RA to be sentenced and forgotten about. LWOP is what I am hoping for, what he deserves, and what he will receive IMO.

Abby and Libby would probably have been graduating from College this coming year and making a positive impact in the world had they not had the horrible misfortune of crossing paths with this murdering monster.

Let the healing begin.

Justice has been served. I hope the RA fans will now allow peace to return to Delphi.
Yes, the overly loud protests have gradually reduced to mostly whining & whimpering. I admit, I check them once a week for a good laugh or two. I will feel more at ease once we see where the appeals may or may not go - I’m currently around a 70% level of confidence all will be upheld. Fingers crossed.

I tend to also lean towards a similar line of thinking, but feel the mither & wife were more overbearing in his mind - always telling him what to do & nagging until they got their way. He was too much of a coward to risk rocking the boat for whatever reason so just lived in his own misery & with his own shady perversions. Yes, the overpowering, intimidation & I think having control over a female, in this case 2, was very appealing to him to put it mildly.

sigh how exactly do they think a transcript of that first court appearance is going to do to assist them in offering mitigators for their client? Just a Hail Mary. More “Poor Ricky, he now carries a bible."

Will KA protest the whole process, silent but with according expressions (angry shaking head)?
She will be raising her arm and pumping her fists, while
yelling " This isn't over at all" !!
as her husband is driven away to his new prison home for the rest of his awful life.

As she left the courthouse, Kathy Allen said, "This isn't over at all."

<modsnip>

The D team still doesn't have anything to offer as a defense.
They didn't at the beginning and they don't now.

It will be more of "throwing something at the wall and see what sticks"
Hail Mary efforts .

They could not remove RA from the Bridge, they could Not remove him telling Libby & Abby to "Go down the Hill"
they could not remove the fact that RA, himself, said he was spooked by incoming white vehicle and as a matter of fact--why, Yes --there was a white vehicle driving by right at the same time.

Well, the list goes on as to what they could NOT dispute

Let's get this to sentencing and be done with RA

Prayers that the families can find some kind of peace and move forward in the best way they can.

Correct !!!

It is NOT unusual for a high profile Defendant to be housed in prison while awaiting trial, look at the recent Healthcare CEO shooter.
He's being housed in a prison facility instead of the local jail.

It happens !!

RA was/is not the only one -- they are put there for a reason and the court determined that reason.
