GUILTY Abby & Libby - The Delphi Murders - Richard Allen Arrested - #219

As someone who is afraid of heights, I can tell you that I have been in multiple situations where I was able to be convinced to go out on something high but by the time I was halfway across I was going slower and slower because my fear was increasing and I felt like I was going to be sick/pass out/legs refused to take another step because they were so shaky. Sometimes I had to stop at that point and have my friend or family member reassure me and talk me through it before I could continue on to the end.

It could also be that past platform 3, the condition of the bridge worsened and required them to go more slowly to avoid rotted out parts.
I think that is a good theory. If you tripped on a wooden trestle on the bridge or thought it could not hold your weight you would probably go slower. Any number of reasons could cause someone to go slower. Being new to the bridge could cause it which is why I was surprised by Libby and Abby's pace at first up to platform 3. The pictures and video suggested to me that Liberty German was dictating the pace and Abigail Williams was trying to keep up. That is what it looked like but only the people there that day know for sure what pace was being kept.

For any timing issues about walking across the Monon High Bridge, there is one fact to keep in mind based on the newly released video:

There does not seem to be any way to determine when Liberty German got to the end of the Monon High Bridge. That is not documented because when the video recording starts Libby is already there.

Why did Abby and Libby's pace slow down after platform 3 at around 2:07pm?

During the trial other video was mentioned.

But as the entire cellphone contents including iphoto, imessaging and Snapchat were never released, it obviously can’t have held significant information for either the P or D. JMO

“The video -- played during testimony from Indiana State Police digital forensic examiner Brian Bunner -- showed Libby filming herself and Abby walking on the Monon High Bridge. At one point, the camera panned up, and no one was behind Abby. In a later shot, the video shows a man walking behind her.”

If the jacket found during Richard Allen's search warrant of his home had snaps, then I think that would be at least one distinctive feature that would lead me to believe that it is him in Liberty German's phone video. It would be nice if that piece of evidence was released to the public.

I agree because there is no way the prosecution would submit a blue jacket to the jury that did not have snaps. There is no way the jury would miss that after looking at the bridge guy video. There is no way even if the jury did miss it that the defense would not point it out to the jury.

From Day 6 of the trial, I only recall a reference to the Search Warrant return record/receipt in discovery, more specifically-- item noted as: DRV120 - Sealed paper bag containing one blue "Carhartt" coat.

To be clear, the Discovery made no reference to any more than the color of the Carhartt jacket. Also, I'm not aware if any coat with or w/o snaps was produced during the trial by the State. It's possible but I only recall reading about testimony by Detective Liggett that no DNA was found on the "blue Carhartt jacket." In other words, I can't link that this happened in Court.

See page 117/283 at the link below for Search Warrant details.

im certain they did pass eachother and a strong tendency to believe they did see him, but the reason why people think they interacted before the video is what im wondering? really sounds to me like that was the first time they talked.
The girls (especially Abby) look and sound frightened by the man behind them. That could mean they interacted before the video, or at a minimum, RA’s fast pace set them on edge. Perhaps he called out to them prior to the video.

I recently watched a Court TV interview with Vinnie and one of CTV's producers who covered the trial and she had a different theory about a possible prior conversation between RA and the girls where RA may have told them there was no trail at the opposite end of the bridge but he'd show them how to return to the other side -- hence the instruction "down the hill" wasn't the first time he'd talked to them. She seemed to think the girls were waiting for him, and why they did not run. I don't know that I believe any of this to be true but I do think they exchanged words with RA before crossing the bridge and 'down the hill' spoken by RA wasn't the first time he spoke to them. IMO, LG was already suspicious of him by instinct.

Found the video. Starts after 5 minute intro:

Delphi Murders: 'Bridge Guy' Video Released | Closing Arguments with Vinnie Politan

It's Vinnie
I'll pass on the listening and take it with a grain of salt. LOL

Thank you for sharing-- I don't follow the D-fenders so I miss a lot of what's being said about the court/trial things.

Well, IMO, if this person believes that this was just “good ole CVS clerk” Richard Allen, helpfully explaining to the girls how to safely get off the bridge by another route, he didn’t do a very good job of it.

Seeing as how they ended up murdered and all.

And Abby did run, as we saw in the video. Running for her life, sadly, as RA began galloping after her.

IMO this theory would be just laughable, if it weren’t so awful.

I think what I would do is a get a picture of the length of the Monon High Bridge with some drawing paper underneath to write on in marker.

From the start of the bridge to platform 3 I would draw a line in green and write FAST approximately 2 minutes (based on the 2:05 and 2:07 pictures taken by Libby).

From platform 3 to platform 6, I would draw a line in red and write SLOW approximately 6 minutes. How did bridge guy catch up to within 16-17 seconds of their location on the bridge once they got to the end? Maybe Abby and Libby stopped on the bridge for a few minutes and did not notice bridge guy approaching?

From platform 6 to the end, I would draw a line in green and write FAST approximately 37 seconds (based on the pace of bridge guy and Abby being almost the same in the newly released video).

Whether bridge guy Richard Allen approached from the northwest or the southeast portion of the bridge, the question is, "How close does he have to get to Abby and Libby to make them uncomfortable to start moving at his pace in front of them?" Bridge guy's pace then becomes their pace to the end of the bridge as his movement pushes them towards the end of the bridge. After watching the video numerous times now, I agree that Abby is more nervous about bridge guy's presence than I originally thought when I first watched the video.

Where and when Abby and Libby noticed bridge guy on the Monon High Bridge will probably always remain a mystery.

Agreed, VP and his guests commenting (jokingly sometimes) on Court TV during the lead up and through the trial did him in for me. I haven't watched him since, and won't again in the future.

I wanted to add one other scenario about the amount of time it takes to cross the Monon High Bridge with one more scenario. I do not know exactly where Liberty German took her first picture posted at 2:05pm of the full bridge. It could have been farther onto the bridge. I have seen videos where it takes 8 minutes to cross the Monon High Bridge. I have seen videos where it takes 4 minutes to cross the Monon High Bridge.

If you were to speculate that up to platform 6 took a total of 8 minutes, then that would be about 80 seconds to get between each platform section on the bridge. But the newly released video shows that it only took 37 seconds to get from platform 6 to the end by bridge guy's pace. From the start of bridge to platform 6 the girls went slow, then fast from platform 6 to the end.

The question is if someone gets behind you that makes you nervous to get away from them, how much does that cause you to pick up the pace? Where on the Monon High Bridge did that occur? Or was it like the old algebra train on the tracks problem but where two girls are on the bridge and it takes them over 8 minutes to cross it while someone starts from the other side and it only takes them 4 minutes to cross so this is how the bridge guy was able to catch up to Abby since Libby was already done?

I know there will probably never be an answer to this question, but I thought it was worth considering.

Not for a minute did I think that the jacket LE found at RA’s house was the one he wore on the day he murdered Libby and Abby.
Five plus years had passed. That jacket had long since been tossed or destroyed. Had to have had blood on it. Probably got rid of it before his wife even came home the day of.
His jacket had his house shows only he liked that style of jacket.
Twas the timeline that killed the beast. Not snaps or buttons or zippers on jackets.

Dont know why it's taken me so long to post this, I've been wanting to post it for a while now; but then maybe someone else has already posted it. Here it is for anyone who may be interested.

interesting thought, people describe in that video as hearing the gun being cycled, the bullet found near the girls may have been ejected after the act and him flustered so he may have emptied the chamber and just not picked up the bullet. takes the mag out, ejects the bullet for safety and leaves in a hurry. zero chance it would be there randomly and if it was it would have had to have been weathered.
in addition to this, didn't his confession involve him saying he intended to SA the girls but was interrupted due to a van? maybe it follows then that he did indeed empty the barrel in a rush and just didn't pick up the bullet. hightailed it out after being spooked. he may have left the gun on the ground or had it in hand with the knife in the other to keep them from running, uses the knife and then after being spooked just slides the barrel back and runs. just a thought.

I decided to write a post about what this new bridge guy video reveals concerning timing in Abby and Libby's case. It is based on assumptions and speculation so you can come to your own opinion.

1. How many minutes would it take bridge guy to get across the bridge without stopping? My guesstimate has it taking about 4 minutes 19 seconds based on his pace in the video. From platform 6 to the end it took about 37 seconds so that is how I estimated it. Bridge guy does not get off the bridge until about 16-17 seconds after Abby if you listen for the stones and can see the shadow moving by at the same time. Bridge guy was very slow in catching up to Abby based on the pace in the video.

2. What do the 2:05 and 2:07pm posted pictures of the Monon High Bridge reveal about Abby and Libby's pace across the bridge? If the location of the 2:05pm Snapchat picture is at the beginning and the location of the 2:07pm picture is at platform 3, that would be 1 minute 48 seconds or about 2 minutes between each picture. My guess based purely on speculation is that even though we do not know the exact times the pictures were taken (only the post times) I think the pictures had to be taken very shortly before they were posted to Snapchat.

3. How many minutes would it take Abby and Libby to get across the bridge without stopping?
You could speculate the total time was a little over 8 minutes total
. All I can speculate is that if they are at platform 3 after only 2 minutes, they are walking across the bridge about the same pace as bridge guy at that point. For some reason, Abby and Libby's pace slowed down after platform 3. This could be for any number of reasons. Maybe they both got to platform 4 and stopped to talk about how nice it is to be off school while overlooking the valley or maybe they decided to rest for a few minutes at that point? They did not see bridge guy (Richard Allen) get onto the bridge from the northwest side and that is how he was able to catch up to them. Or even if he did get on the bridge on the northwest side he was far enough away that it did not make them feel uncomfortable until he got within a platform's length of their location. I think you have to also consider the possibility that they got onto a platform to wait for someone to pass them walking from the southeast side towards them. Walking from platform 3 to the end, it took Abby and Libby at least 6 minutes. In those 6 minutes, Libby did not take any more pictures except for the video at the end that we have all now seen.

Based on the 2:07pm picture of Abigail Williams and nobody on the platforms in the background facing back towards the north and based on it taking bridge guy about 4 1/2 minutes to walk across the bridge without stopping, I would speculate bridge guy walked onto the bridge at sometime between 2:07 and 2:09pm if the video was taken at 2:13pm. If he walked on at 2:07 or 2:08pm he had a little more time to stop on a platform and look around or slow his pace.

4. What does this prove? It proves nothing about the case, but it provides a more complete picture of the times when all taken together. I wanted to post it to provide some perspective when taking everything into consideration regarding the pictures and video in this case.

In my opinion, the interesting part was that if you remove whatever was happening between 2:07 and 2:13pm between Abby and Libby's pace, then bridge guy and Abby seemed to be moving across the bridge at around the same pace. Libby seemed a little faster as she could stay a full platform's length ahead based on the video.

Why did Abby and Libby's pace slow down after platform 3 at around 2:07pm?
Questions 1-4 were addressed at trial. The timeline outlined there fits perfectly and the jury was convinced, BARD. As to the last question, it was Abby's first time crossing the MHB. I'm sure her nerves were raw and Libby was a good friend and let Abby set the pace. Nothing unusual at all, just a couple of kids. MO

^This...I've recently wondered since the video release if RA wasn't sitting on or near the first platform and made some type of inappropriate comment to the girls as they approached that made them uncomfortable, but they just ignored it and continued on their way.

I haven't watched the video personally, but what you're suggesting would make perfect sense STG.

So maybe KK and RA met at store where RA bought beer. Maybe KK sold him something extra amd blabbed about some "fish" he had that were hilariously out hiking about to be ghosted.
