Abby & Libby - The Delphi Murders - Richard Allen Arrested - #198

Just going off my own experience with jury selection, but I'm trying to understand the context that this would have been brought up.
It was said during the mini opening statement the defense wanted to be allowed to give to potential jurors. This request was granted and Murder Sheet's episode last night said that each side took about 5 minutes to give a mini open statement before they began questioning jurors. Not sure why this info would be brought up during that 5 minutes, but I'm sure they had a reason for it. Stirring up the media before the trial. I'm sure that will be the highlight on all the various new sites and social media posts today.. hair found in Abby's hand is not RAs!

This seems big if it's true! Whose hair was it??

Allen’s defense team revealed that hair was found in Abby Williams’ hand that didn’t match Richard Allen. That’s the first time that information has been made public. Attorney Andrew Baldwin made the comments during “mini opening statements” preceding jury selection.
I think it’s likely this is not human hair. If it was, there would likely be roots attached (pulled out in a struggle), which would lend itself to more advanced DNA results.

That would potentially allow for a CODIS upload, genetic genealogy, and the standard comparison DNA of any suspects.

Even rootless hair can now be analyzed this way.

So if this was human hair, then I think there’s a good chance this case would have been solved long before it was.

I have a few guesses

Abby's
Libby's
A family member of one of the girls
A family member of RA
A friend of or someone that road in Kelsey's car (the car that drove the girls to the trail that day)
Animal hair

Because I think if that hair belongs to an unknown male, we would have hard about it before now and I think they D would have said Abby had a hair belonging to an unknown male subject in her hand. Just because that hair isn't RA's doesn't mean it belongs to "the real killer" as it would seem is implied by stating it wasn't RA's hair. I mean did RA even have hair in Feb 2017?

DC may be asked why he stated in his Today Show tv interview on 1/15/18 that there were no eyewitnesses that saw BG, other than “the girls”.

At 11:11 in the video:

Argh.

DC needed to stop talking a while back.

Plenty of time post-trial/ post-conviction to continue his media tour.

Doubt this has an impact on the trial tho -- should be other witnesses to testify to the movements of BG, and good luck to any attorney or jury in attempting to decode with certainty the opaque verbiage of DC.

Noon FOX59 update. Reporter stated RA confessed to murders that did not happen. (His family and grandchildren)

Thank you for the additional comment. The fact that he confessed to killing his family and grandchildren was left out of the article but included in the short video clip. I would have missed that if you had not included it.

He also mentioned the "hair presumably from the killer clutched in Abby's hand at the murder scene."

<modsnip - quoted post was removed>

If I am understanding correctly, the state is calling the murders sexually motivated. My interpretation of that would be that he had pedophilic tendencies and intended to either engage with A&L in a sexual manner or film/ watch them together.

From the little bit that we know, he was not able to go through his intended process. Why that is,we don't yet know. It could even have been that he was unable to perform, as this does happen in cases of sexual assault. We will find out very soon.

The evidence is that Libby's body was nude. Without ever penetrating her, it would still be sexual assault. Branches next to her vaginal area also is highly leaning towards SA as well.

The fact is that the girls died a horrifying and terrible death and that calling out their murderer for everything he did to them is the absolute moral and ethical thing to do, IMO.

Just guessing here, is this an animal hair? Hair from a furry coat? A child grabbing at the ground and animal hair is caught up in her hand or under her nails? Did an animal walk over them leaving a hair behind?

Just by "pronouncing" it wasn't Allen's is to produce shock and awe.

I'm not taking this bait.
It will be interesting what results are about the hair. Due to defense's record in this case, I trust nothing w/them at this time. moo

Personally, I think it is likely a human hair. According to this article, the state has spent $20,000 on genetic genealogy so far. That means that they must have had an unknown human DNA sample they were testing at some point.

I have been through jury selection more than once too and never experienced this.
The state I live in does not allow “mini opening statements”. Arguments and evidence don’t start till the trial.
I think allowing these type of statements during jury selection is profoundly stupid. Anything can be said regardless of its truth. How confused the jury must be by the time the trial even begins.

Agree !!
D team just stirring the pot...again !!
I am not surprised and expect to see a lot more of it.

Also, just a thought...there might have been more than one hair found and only this particular one, in Abby's hand, was not RA's.

But if other hair was found, then those might belong to RA.
(But of course, D team is not going to say that part..only that this particular one is not RA=BG)

Prosecutors in the murder trial of Richard Allen, the Delphi man who is accused of killing two teenagers, has asked the court to prohibit the sketches used by investigators.
I don't think it will be that big of a problem. It is explainable. After a long time of no one recognising the initial sketch, they reevaluated. There was one witness who saw it a different way, so they put out a revised version, making him look younger.

I think that is somewhat normal that there are differing descriptions of a suspect.
Have the transcripts from the 3 day hearing been linked?

The transcrips from the Aug 2024 hearing show LE testified that the sketches are the results of 2 witnesses who separately did them with an artist. They also said the witnesses did not want to do them.
I would guess that the prosecution doesn't want the witnesses grilled on the stand, about the sketches or they will be uncooperative witnesses.
The defense knows exactly why they are "different" from each other.
MOO

Also, the subject of the clothing confusion is cleared up by Major Patrick Cicero.

Also, the teens could have hugged anyone that morning or while getting out of the car. A hair that gently floated down from a shoulder onto a hand.

Edit: Or one that came off of Allen's coat.

Still....defense is baiting the potential jury.

#UPDATE: As of 1:15 p.m., 16 jurors have been selected in the #Delphi double murder trial. BUT, Special Judge Fran Gull says juror selection “will continue” — it’s unclear why. We will be back in session at 2 p.m.

I feel like they can't have too many alternates at this point.. if 3 of those picked yesterday are already gone due to childcare and medical issues, I'd say why not err on the side of caution and pick a few extra alternates.. we are heading into cold/flu season and being sequestered should limit exposure to a lot of people, but still things happen.. emergencies in their families come up too. 4 alternates seemed like too few.. maybe 6 or 8 would be better. There are still several days before they return back to court so things could pop up in the next 2 days also.

agreed. It has been a long and winding road to get here, the last thing needed is yet another delay because we find our selves without enough alternates.
