I agree and each time the D write a motion and after it gets released, the focus is on them and diverted away from the happenings in the courtroom. JMO
yes, the timing of this filing is not lost on some of us.

If someone was walking by him or even if he was sitting and others passed him by - wouldn't they smell the alcohol like a brewery?

The trail doesn't seem too wide, but I'm sure you'd get a whiff of that if within close proximity.

Not if his face was covered and this is kids that got close to him.. doubt they paid any attention to that. BB was not close enough to smell his breath (thank God for her because it might be her we are talking about) and the last one was in a car..

He drunk the 3 beers at his parents, then went home and changed. If he is a functional alcoholic, mouthwash and chewing gum are part of your everyday life, like putting on socks. Additionally, he was a smoker. A lot of ppl are/were, and you wouldn't notice unless you were literally going for a kiss. People who smell of booze so strong that you can smell it from 10 feet away are usually actively on a one-two day long bender.

My own experience.

Update….

He became tearful and said he committed the murders by himself. According to Wala’s account, Allen said his intentions were “sexual” in nature and he alluded to having a sex addiction. He believed the girls were older—perhaps 18 or 19—although he also thought they could’ve been as young as 11.

He also said he was an alcoholic and had been both a victim and perpetrator of child molestation.

He wanted to apologize to the girls’ families.
……
By his account, he saw something—either a man or a van, it was unclear in court—that startled him. He ordered the girls across the creek, cut their necks and then covered their bodies with tree branches. He walked to his car, which he’d parked at a nearby building.

Wala noted that Allen seemed “relieved” after the admission

Allen continued to live his life as normal after the killings, he said.
…..
On May 9, he said, “I just want to sign my confession.” Wala suggested he talk to his attorneys. Allen talked about planning his “last meal” and killing himself. He exhibited no evidence of psychotic symptoms, Wala noted.

Agreed - and I also doubt the detail about seeing the van (edit: or man...) and abandoning the original plan would have been able to be derived from the discovery either.

Exactly. I wonder if LE was able to then corroborate the man/van after he made this detailed confession.

He is a lovely catch isn’t he. He claims he molested his sister and an alcoholic and let’s not forget eating his own poop. Plus all his mental battles.

Looks like having the defendant closer to his attorneys and family was a factor in the move. Not his living conditions.

I don't see RA looking so good right now. Prison, jail, both places equally take a prisoners freedom away. JMO.

The distance was always cited as a factor by both sets of defense attys, along with conditions.
I haven't seen RA but I have seen comments by those who are attending the trial that he looks much better than he did the last time they saw him.

MOO they should be. Today's revelations are quite damning IMO and the day ha sonly just begun.
I’m still very nervous but today is going to move the needle substantially.

If he is a regular drinker, I doubt six beers would cause him to stagger about.

40 years ago I could do it and did do it, and I could function just fine.

Wonder what time it was that the private road people's son dropped by to check on the house.

Exactly. He said he only drank three beers then drank the other three after the murders. How does an alcoholic catch a buzz off only three beers unless MassGuy is correct that he had a flask on his person. It doesn’t make sense to me!
He may have started his day 50 sheets to the wind, drank his breakfast before downing a 6 pack for lunch...

We are finally meeting the real RA.

It ain't pretty.

That does explain why the Defence did not try to pain the picture of RA the good family man in any of their statements. Don't want to call in witnesses to support his character because that would leave them vulnerable to cross.

Question :
After the Discovery or before it?

Would Allen have been told of details at the crime scene such as the tree branches etc at the time of this confession?
Do we know?

It would make this even more compelling if he didn’t, obviously. I don’t think we know though.

I wonder if they can/will call his sister to testify? If she confirms...

IIRC about 3:30pm that day. When I find a source I will post it.
