Day 11, Delphi murders trial, lunch break wrap. One witness all morning, still on the stand heading into the afternoon. 1/
Dr. Monica Wala, a psychologist who treated Richard Allen at Westville Correctional Facility, testified about times he confessed or said he wanted to confess to killing Abby Williams and Libby German in 2017. 2/
She said those came in April and May 2023, after his behavior started getting more bizarre. During an April 2023 session, Wala said, Allen brought up the case, saying that he killed the girls. She said he indicated his intention was ‘sexual in nature.’ 3/
Wala said another time was in May 2023, when he called his wife and wanted Wala to hear, too, so she would understand. She said he told them he’d had three beers, went to Monon High Bridge Trail, saw the girls on the bridge and followed them. 4/
Wala said Allen told the girls to go down the hill near High Bridge w/the intention of raping them, but got scared when he saw a van in the area. She said he described cutting their necks, making sure they died, covered them with some sticks, then went home to live his life. 5/
“He almost seemed relieved,” Wala testified. 6/
A lot of testimony about Richard Allen’s mental health / suicide watch status at Westville. On cross, Wala faced questions about her true crime interests, including the Delphi case, and how her pretrial testimony in July led to her not working with/Westville anymore. 7/
More testimony coming this afternoon.
